IFWG at Gold Coast Supanova

It’s been a long time, but finally, last weekend, there was a full-blown pop culture convention in the Gold Coast, IFWG’s (now) home city. While it may not have been as big as the usual gig at the Gold Coast, we believe that the turnout was still well above expectations. It was fun.

IFWG has a long association with Supanova and we jumped at the opportunity to knit it (as well as Sydney, Melbourne and possibly Perth later this year) into our routine, particularly our Uncaching The Treasures campaign. It certainly was a winning move this time around. Two of our upcoming releases: Cthulhu Deep Down Under Volume 3 and Spawn: Weird Horror Tales About Pregnancy, Birth and Babies had early short runs made so that attendees at Supanova were lucky to purchase them, and we had the privilege of having Venero Armanno turn up as one of our authors to sign copies of his recent masterpiece, The Crying Forest. Chris Sequeira, our Editor in Chief of our new IPI comics line, as well as one of our senior editors of anthologies, was there, as was Helen Stubbs and Kat Pekin, two of the amazing authors that contributed to SPAWN. We had two panels, each centred around our new releases, and behind the scenes we negotiated an exciting new deal with a prominent Australian author (more to be said about that at a later date).

Below are a selection of photos taken of the event (regrettably, we have no shots of the second panel with Helen and Kat) – enjoy!

New Release: The Crying Forest by Venero Armanno

IFWG Publishing Australia is over the moon to announce the release (2 November 2020) of Venero Armanno’s latest novel, The Crying Forest in Australia, New Zealand, UK and Europe. The novel will be released through our International Imprint in North America through IPG on 1st February 2021.

“We feel privileged to have Armanno’s wonderful novel in our catalogue,” said IFWG’s Managing Director, Gerry Huntman, “as he has an amazing track record internationally with his fiction, including winning the Queensland Premier’s Award. Aside from his credentials, The Crying Forest is an outstanding mix of dark supernatural fiction with crime and thriller elements, and paints a vivid setting in Brisbane and surrounding areas, overlaid with European witchcraft. We view this as one of our flagship titles for 2020/21, and certainly in the dark fiction field.”

Agata Rosso, a once-mighty yet now prematurely aged European witch, believes that the special gifts in a young girl named Lía Munro can restore youth and vitality both to herself and her bedridden husband. She sets a deadly plan in motion to capture and use Lía-but will the girl have enough power to protect herself, plus the father she loves so much?

The Crying Forest is available at all good bricks and mortar and online book stores outside North America, in ebook and print formats. IFWG titles are distributed through Novella in Australia and Gazelle in UK/Europe.

Cover Reveal: The Crying Forest by Venero (Veny) Armanno

CF Final Front Cover

It is with great pleasure that IFWG can reveal the cover for Veny Armanno’s upcoming novel, The Crying Forest. It contains wonderful artwork by Daniele Serra, an artist well known in the horror and dark fantasy market.

The novel will be finalised in coming months, to wait in the release queue, available for sale when the marketplace is stabilised following the current COVID-19 crisis.

New Acquisition: ‘The Crying Forest’ by Venero (Veny) Armanno

IFWG Publishing is exceedingly pleased with the contract signing of Veny Armanno’s latest novel, currently titled ‘The Crying Forest’.

He has a great pedigree:  Veny is the author of ten critically acclaimed novels, including his recent book Burning Down (2017). His other well-known books include Black Mountain (2012), The Dirty Beat (2007) and Candle Life (2006). Further back, Veny’s novel Firehead was shortlisted in the 1999 Queensland Premier’s Literary Award; in 2002 The Volcano won the award with Best Fiction Book of the Year. His work has gone on to be published in the United States, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Holland, Israel and South Korea.

“Veny is a highly respected author in the Australian literary scene,” stated Gerry Huntman, Managing Director of IFWG, “and at the same time he is a master of speculative fiction. This acquisition is a synthesis of both, a work that is an intelligent, deeply mysterious and creepy story.”
