Translation Acquisition: Dawn of the Zombie Apocalypse (Spanish) by Lee Murray

IFWG’s long-planned move to publish Spanish-language titles will come to fruition this year, bolstered by a strong Spanish-language distribution wing of our North American distributor (IPG) as well as some distribution penetration into the marketplace in Spain via Gazelle. David Bowles’ El espejo humeante (translation of The Smoking Mirror) has already been announced and it will be released in May/June 2022.

Our second Spanish release is today’s acquisition of world-wide Spanish book and ebook rights to Lee Murray’s middle grade novel, Dawn of the Zombie Apocalypse (El Amanecer del Apocalipsis Zombi). The team who were involved in the translation, editing, proofreading, and quality control, are many, and carried out their functions spectacularly.

“It’s not a coincidence that we have acquired Spanish language middle grade titles from our existing catalogue,” says Gerry Huntman, Managing Director of IFWG, “as we have successfully tapped into a significant Spanish-speaking reader audience in the US, and our network allows us to sell books into North, Central and South America. This could not have been done without truly excellent middle grade texts, such as Murray’s Dawn of the Zombie Apocalypse, as well as having a strong network of translators and proofreaders, particularly those that understand the nuances between regions in the Spanish speaking world.”

El Amanecer del Apocalipsis Zombi will be released in the Americas (via our International imprint) in the first instance, in October 2022.

Lee Murray is a multi-award-winning author-editor and poet from Aotearoa-New Zealand. A USA Today Bestselling author, double Bram Stoker, and Shirley Jackson Award-winner, Lee’s titles for children include Battle of the Birds, a Sir Julius Vogel Award winner for Best Youth Novel, MisplacedMika, and Conclave 7El Amanecer del Apocalipsis Zombi (Dawn of the Zombie Apocalypse, also available from IFWG), is her first title in Spanish.

New Release: Heroes of Heresy by Paul Mannering

Today we have released, world-wide, Paul Mannering’s concluding novel in his Drakeforth Series, Heroes of Heresy.

This has been a long and happy journey, where in 2017 IFWG bought the rights to the first two novels of Mannering’s series (which were previously published, Engines of Empathy and Pisces of Fate), and it included clauses to completing the series with two original novels (Time of Breath and this new release).

IFWG fell in love with Mannering’s style of writing and also recognised that there wasn’t enough quality humorous and satirical titles in the speculative fiction field today. We have now come to the last of the series and we feel vindicated in our acquisition. Well done Paul, and long may you continue to entertain us and provide your insights into the human condition through wit!

We continue to be gobsmacked by the cover artwork and design by Luke Spooner.

When Arthurian monk, Habeas Yeast found religion he stopped looking for anything else. Now religion is looking for him.

The recently possessed Vole Drakeforth teams up with Pimola Goosebread, passionate tea-critic and leading research scientist in particle physics.

Seeking the truth behind the very nature of reality, these unlikely heroes find themselves the target of the world’s most customer-focused professional killers.

This is the prequel you will want to read first, but really need to read last for it to make sense.

Heroes of Heresy is now available in ebook and print formats from all quality online and bricks and mortar stores.

New Release: Time of Breath by Paul Mannering

Time Of Breath Update Text 02

IFWG is excited to announce the release of Paul Mannering’s next instalment of his Drakeforth series: book 3, Time of Breath. “So happy to have this third instalment,” said Gerry Huntman, Managing Director of IFWG. “Like all of the volumes in the series, we have a wonderful mix of fantasy and whimsy, and Luke Spooner of Carrion House has captured this perfectly in his cover and design work for the book. We know Drakeforth fans will love it!”

Waking up this morning was the last thing Charlotte Pudding expected to do. Now she is with Vole Drakeforth and a mysterious woman on a quest to find the only man who knows what is really going on.

In the desert country of Pathia, where ideas are hard currency, they search for answers and a tree.

It will take more than an ex-wife, a revolution, and the mystery of a famous Arthurian artefact to stop Charlotte from uncovering the ultimate truth.

Time of Breath is available world-wide in ebook and print formats, online and in bricks and mortar stores.

New Release: The Year of the Fruit Cake by Gillian Polack

The Year Of The Fruit Cake Front Cover With Text

It is with great pleasure that IFWG announces the release of The Year of the Fruit Cake by Gillian Polack in all regions except North America for the print version (16 September 2019 release).

“Polack’s novel is a unique work and attracted us from the get-go,” said Gerry Huntman, Managing Director of IFWG. “The novel blends satire and science fiction, and makes strong comments about the human condition, particularly through a feminist lens.”

Humankind is in danger.
The Year of the Fruit Cake tells of the Earth-based life of a mostly-mindwiped alien anthropologist inhabiting a human perimenopausal body instead of her own more rational body with its capacity to change gender. This alien has definitely shaken a great intergalactic empire by sitting in cafés with her new best friends. Chocolate may or may not have played a part. Will humanity survive?
Polack describes her novel as, “Bleak. It’s political. It’s angry. It’s also sarcastic, cynical and funny.”
eBooks are available world-wide through all good online bookstores. Print books are available in all regions except North America, again through all good bricks and mortar and online stores. North America will have the release mid September 2019.
