Bundle Offer: The Complete Reforging Series by Barbara Howe

IFWG has just released the final of Barbara Howe’s Reforging series, The Forge, and to celebrate this release, as well as the conclusion of this masterful young adult series, we are offering to ship the five books to purchasers, anywhere in the world(*), until the end of January 2022.

What makes Howe’s Reforging so special is the mix of detailed world-building in an alt-historical Europe, combined with strong and realistic female protagonists. She has stated on more than one occasion that she wrote the books so that she could read them to her daughter without cringing at how female characters are portrayed in fantasy novels. IFWG bought the rights to this series on the strength of this, but also because Howe is a superb writer and clearly her books would be enjoyed by mature readers as well.

The five novels are:

  1. The Locksmith
  2. Engine of Lies
  3. The Blacksmith
  4. The Wordsmith
  5. The Forge

Click here if you want to purchase the five books bundled and shipped to your address (AU$99.95 – note this is in Australian dollars which is favourable to, for instance, UK pounds and US dollars).

(*) There may be some geographies where the cost of shipping is prohibitive, and IFWG has the right to reimburse the purchaser and not fulfil the offer. From our experience, there are not too many regions that fit into this category.

New Release: The Forge by Barbara Howe

Today is the book-birthday, world-wide, of Barbara Howe’s concluding novel in her Reforging Series, The Forge.

While ecstatic at the release of another wonderful young adult fantasy novel by Barbara Howe, and the continuation of her storyline in the Reforging series, it is also a sad occasion for us, as it is the conclusion and we have to settle on there being an end to her story and world-building. This is the second series concluding for us in 2021, and another will occur in March 2023 – we should be getting used to this, but the sad fact is that we can’t when we are enjoying them so much.

Nevertheless, we are certainly very happy to have the complete series now available to readers who love a strong alt-historical bent to high fantasy, and who love realistic, strong female characters. This was what Barbara sold to us when we accepted the series back in 2016, and she delivered above expectations.

We would also like to acknowledge the magnificent artwork and design by UK-based Catherine Archer-Wills, who worked on all five books and, in our humble opinions, delivered the best for last.

Thunder rolls in a continuous barrage, echoing off mountain walls. Lightning blazes across the sky, one jagged flash after another. The bolts that hit their targets leave charred bodies in their wake. The attacks that miss turn spruce and fir into torches, spreading fire until the entire mountain is in flames. Struggling wizards stand out as black silhouettes against the reds and oranges of the forest fire and the white of the deep snow.

In the valley, villagers cower under beds or huddle in cellars. The bravest peek out through gaps in closed shutters and pray for the Fire Warlock to come and save them.

Their prayers go unanswered. There is no Fire Warlock.

The Forge is now available in ebook and print formats from all quality online and bricks and mortar stores. Stay tuned for an offer for all five books bundled, through the publisher.

Preorder: Silent Sorrow by Russell Kirkpatrick

Volume 1 Art New version with text-2

Silent Sorrow, Volume 1 of The Book Of Remezov series by Russell Kirkpatrick, will be released worldwide following the current COVID-19 crisis. It is a hefty book (484 pages), full of wonderful adventure and world building, and we know Kirkpatrick has a sizeable fan base. For a limited time we offer preorders of Silent Sorrow at a great discount, and which will be delivered on, or just before, 1 June 2020.

eBook preorders will be available following the crisis through various platforms (Amazon, Nook, Kobo, iBook).

Print preorders are now available based on geography (and restricted to these geographies):

Print preorders have now ceased. This was not withdrawn in order to honour our commitment prior to our response to COVID-19. Delivery may be subject to delays due to the effects of the pandemic on postal systems.

Brilliant and ambitious, Remezov is already recognised as the best earthquake predictor in the business. He travels to the ancient city of Hanemark to be received into the powerful Guild of Geographers, the youngest inductee in decades. On the way he finds a dead scientist’s diary, warning of an imminent invasion. Nonsense, of course—except the diary explains otherwise puzzling occurrences. Does he surrender it to the Guild, risking accusations he killed the scientist and stole the diary—all for an invasion that may never come—or does he keep it and use it to make his name? He has to decide soon, because he’s being hunted by something leaving a trail of mutilated bodies across the city.

The lizards are coming…

New Release: The Blacksmith by Barbara Howe

IFWG is pleased to announce the non-North American release of The Blacksmith by New Zealand author, Barbara Howe.  The wonderful cover art is by Catherine Archer-Wills. The North American release will occur on 23rd September 2019.

“This is the third of the Reforging series by Howe,” said Gerry Huntman, Managing Director of IFWG, “and it just gets better and better. Barbara shows us how to spin a convincing and evocative fantasy story, and suck the reader right in.”

How is the king like a blacksmith? He has a hammer as well as a sword.

Duncan Archer has heard that riddle many times, but he doesn’t know what it means. No one does, not even the members of the Royal Guild of Swordsmiths. It isn’t Duncan’s business anyway. Good sense tells him to stick to beating iron into shape for the residents of his backwater town, and not worry about the king and his nobles pounding Frankland into the ground.

But good sense never stopped Duncan from poking his nose into everyone else’s business. If it had, he might not be a fugitive, the subject of the biggest manhunt in the country’s history.

With a charge of murder hanging over his head like a sword, understanding that riddle becomes much more urgent…

The Blacksmith is available through all good bricks and mortar and online stores in non-North American regions. North America will have the release on 23rd September 2019.

IFWG Australia is excited to announce the third instalment of the epic fantasy Warriors of Vhast series by Tasmanian author Cary J Lenehan, ‘Clearing the Web‘. “Cary’s detailed and comprehensive world building shines out as usual,” said Gerry Huntman (Managing Director IFWG), and as the storyline progresses Cary’s work gets better and better. This is a vast project, no pun intended, and we are proud to be publishing it worldwide.”

Kudos to Catherine Archer-Wills for her artwork and design for this, and previous volumes (with earlier design by Elizabeth Lang).

The world book launch for Clearing the Web will be held at:

Amor Bar,
217-219 Elizabeth Street,
North Hobart
at 7pm 29 November 2018

Clearing the Web continues to follow the unfolding events on the distant, artificial world of Vhast. A lost realm, a visit to a nearby Empire, the arrival of foes, and then a dragon test the recently anointed heroes.

Following on from Intimations of Evil and Engaging Evil, the Princess and her mage wife, the Cat, the priest, the ghazi, and the others leave their small newly freed village and set out to uncover the evil infecting The Land. One obstacle after another appears as the evil fights back.

Clearing the Web is the third book of a series that sees reality confronted and a world re-shaped as new myths are created in an epic fantasy adventure.

Clearing the Web will be released in Australia, UK and Europe on 29th November 2018, and in North America January/February 2019 (to be advised).
