H. P. Lovecraft pioneered a fusion of terror and science fiction themes, and is widely credited as having invented the sub-genre of ‘cosmic horror’. While America’s New England was the focus and setting for many of Lovecraft’s tales, the Southern Hemisphere held a fascination for him. Australia, New Zealand and Antarctica were featured locations in his Mythosian novellas.

In tribute to this, presented here is an assortment of the finest Australian dark fiction, bringing you a second volume of Lovecraftian stories of wonder and dread. Featured are new tales by ROBERT HOOD, LEE MURRAY, KIRSTYN McDERMOTT and SILVIA BROWN.

Cthulhu Deep Down Under Volume 2 takes us back below the equator, into the bizarre and headlong towards horror. From mist-shrouded peaks and canyons of Melanesian islands, through rainforests and scorching deserts of the island continent of Terra Australis, and across the Tasman Sea to the inhospitable hinterlands of New Zealand.

Tales of terror by:
Kirstyn McDermott
Robert Hood
Lee Murray
Jason Nahrung
Bill Congreve
J Scherpenhuizen
Silvia Brown
T.S.P. Sweeney
Geoff Brown
David Kuraria

Also an introduction by Mythos fiction guru and horror author, Peter Rawlik.

Cover Reveal: Cthulhu Deep Down Under Volume 2

IFWG is very proud indeed of our Cthulhu Deep Down Under 3-volume series and look very much forward to Vol 2’s world release on 1st August 2018. We have just signed off the full cover spread, but at this early stage we would like to showcase the front cover – another beautiful job by artist and designer, Steve Santiago. In coming weeks we will reveal more, including the full TOC. Note our pleasure in having Mythos-guru Peter Rawlick penning this volume’s introduction. Editors Steve Proposch, Chris Sequeira and Bryce Stevens have, once again, done a wonderful job.

For those who haven’t had the pleasure of reading Volume 1, give yourself some time introducing yourself to the series by purchasing it. Preorder details for Volume 2 will be available soon.

And for those who are interested in our stand-alone New Zealand companion to this series, currently titled Cthulhu: Land of the Long White Cloud, it will be released in September 2018 – again, more details to follow.

Double Release

We are very proud to have released over recent months some quality speculative fiction, starting with Cthulhu Deep Down Under Volume 1. Today we are releasing (world wide) Steven Paulsen‘s collection of weird fiction, Shadows on the Wall, as well as Jason Franks‘  dark fantasy novel, Faerie Apocalypse. Both books are wonderful additions to our catalogue, and we encourage you all to ‘buy and try’ them.

Both books (as well as Cthulhu Deep Down Under) are simultaneously released in Australia and North America via their respective distributors.

New Release: Cthulhu Deep Down Under Volume 1

CDDU1 full spread

It is with great pleasure that we announce the Australian release of Cthulhu Deep Down Under Volume 1, edited by Steve Proposch, Christopher Sequiera, and Bryce Stevens. It is the third title under our ‘Dark Phases’ title series, and the first of three volumes of Australian Lovecraftian short fiction.

The cover artwork and design is by Steve Santiago, no stranger to Mythos art, and who will also be doing the honours in Vols 2 and 3, which will be published in 2018 and 2019 respectively. We also have two fine internal pieces by Sarah Ellerton and the late, and great, Lindsay C. Walker (who we have dedicated this anthology to).

The Table of Contents is as follows:

Introduction by Ramsey Campbell
A Pearl Beyond Price by Janeen Webb
Haunting Matilda by Dmetri Kakmi
Wife to Mr Lovecraft by Lucy Sussex
Darkness Beyond by Jason Franks
The Diesel Pool by Kaaron Warren
Dreamgirl by Stephen Dedman
The Thing In the Bidet by William Tevelain
The Return Of… by Christopher Sequeira
The Elder Things by B. Michael Radburn
Vanguard by Aaron Sterns

We are just as excited to publish other great Australian writers in our later volumes.

Cthulhu Deep Down Under Volume 1 should be available from all fine bricks and mortar, and online, bookstores – ask for it if they haven’t got it on their shelves. The anthology will be released in North America on the 1st December this year.

Stay tuned for news about the formal book launch early next year, which will be in Melbourne, where many of its authors reside.
