New Release: The Wildcard by Kathryn Hore

IFWG is very proud to announce the release in Australia, New Zealand, Europe and UK, Kathryn Hore’s debut novel, The Wildcard. It is also released world wide in ebook format, and the print release in North America will occur on 25 May 2021. This novel is a well researched, entertaining crime suspense thriller, centred, as you guessed, around gambling.

Jem doesn’t do risk. He doesn’t play games with chance. At least not until his ex-girlfriend shows up on his doorstop in tears and tricks him into signing for an impossible debt.

Thrust into an underworld of card players who bet anything they can think of – favours, information, secrets, even coffee – Jem has to figure his way out of a debt he doesn’t understand, in a world where the rules are twisting, complex and never explained. Relying only on a woman who plays life like she plays a game of poker, and drawn to a young man who offers temptations Jem’s not sure he can trust, there is only one thing he is clear on: the consequences of losing in this crowd. Because the last guy to owe a debt like his was just found floating face down in the ocean, and if Jem doesn’t sort this out fast, he could be next.

Kathryn is a Melbourne writer of speculative and thriller fiction with a taste for blending dark genres in twisting ways. Her short fiction has been published in several anthologies and magazines, including Aurealis and Midnight Echo. When not writing, she works in archives, libraries and records management, and has a couple of small children to keep her busy. The Wildcard is her debut novel.

The Wildcard is available now in all good print and ebook stores and online stores.

New Release: The Crying Forest by Venero Armanno

IFWG Publishing Australia is over the moon to announce the release (2 November 2020) of Venero Armanno’s latest novel, The Crying Forest in Australia, New Zealand, UK and Europe. The novel will be released through our International Imprint in North America through IPG on 1st February 2021.

“We feel privileged to have Armanno’s wonderful novel in our catalogue,” said IFWG’s Managing Director, Gerry Huntman, “as he has an amazing track record internationally with his fiction, including winning the Queensland Premier’s Award. Aside from his credentials, The Crying Forest is an outstanding mix of dark supernatural fiction with crime and thriller elements, and paints a vivid setting in Brisbane and surrounding areas, overlaid with European witchcraft. We view this as one of our flagship titles for 2020/21, and certainly in the dark fiction field.”

Agata Rosso, a once-mighty yet now prematurely aged European witch, believes that the special gifts in a young girl named Lía Munro can restore youth and vitality both to herself and her bedridden husband. She sets a deadly plan in motion to capture and use Lía-but will the girl have enough power to protect herself, plus the father she loves so much?

The Crying Forest is available at all good bricks and mortar and online book stores outside North America, in ebook and print formats. IFWG titles are distributed through Novella in Australia and Gazelle in UK/Europe.

Book Deal: X-Dimensional Assassin Zai Through the Unfolded Earth

It is with great pleasure that we can announce a book deal with Jason Franks for his latest novel, X-Dimensional Assassin Zai Through the Unfolded Earth, a story that turns well-known sub-genres upside-down, as he did with his earlier IFWG title, Faerie Apocalypse. “Jason always delivers,” said Gerry Huntman, Managing Director of IFWG, “and provides original takes to themes, characters and storylines. This manuscript is no different and will be a delight to publish.”

Zai is an international assassin who’s mainly in it for the travel opportunities. So, when his new agency starts to send him on assignment to places that do not exist, it’s a dream come true.

Crooked accountants; faerie industrialists; down-at-heels gods; secret police chiefs. A hidden continent colonized by refugees from sunken Atlantis; a secret space station; an aerostatic city-state; a post-apocalyptic Faerie Land; a Britain that has Brexited from the entire universe. Whoever you are, and wherever you hide, X-Dimensional Assassin Zai will find you… but not until he’s seen the sights and tried all the local cuisine.

X-Dimensional Assassin Zai is a fantasy/SF/crime novel about tourism and murder.

Jason Franks is the author of the novels Bloody Waters, Faerie Apocalypse, and Shadowmancy, as well as the Sixsmiths graphic novel series. Most of his work, in prose and comics, falls into (or out of) some combination of the horror, fantasy, science fiction and comedy genres. Franks’ books have variously been shortlisted for Aurealis, Ledger and Ditmar awards. In the real world he works as a software engineer and data scientist.

He lives in Melbourne, Australia. Find out more at jasonfranks.com

X-Dimensional Assassin Zai Through the Unfolded Earth will be published world-wide in 2022.

They know what’s going to happen to you… after you die.

Scientists in Iceland think they’ve figured out one of our greatest mysteries – where the electrical energy in our brains goes after we die. When ex-lawyer Becky Dales travels to Iceland to track down her missing brother, she doesn’t care about the groundbreaking discoveries, or the positive-thinking practiced by the Icelanders – she just wants her brother back. Having stumbled on something she thinks the Icelandic government wants covered up, Becky must piece together the answers fast… before she becomes a victim herself.
