Cover & TOC Reveal: Cthulhu Deep Down Under Vol 3

It is with great pleasure that we can now reveal to you the cover and Table of Contents of our upcoming anthology, Cthulhu Deep Down Under Volume 3 (edited by Steve Proposch, Christopher Sequeira and Bryce Stevens).

It was highly appropriate that we have a ‘top end’ look to the cover, as the previous volumes depicted Australia’s urban dimension (Sydney Harbour), as well as its well know ‘outback’. Steve Santiago, our artist and cover designer, did a wonderful job yet again! There’s something mysterious about dense rainforests and jungles – you never know what you might discover!

And here’s the wonderful table of contents:

Introduction…Cat Rambo
All the Long Way Down…Alf Simpson
Farewell to Elephant…Cat Sparks
The Third Party Doctrine…Steve Proposch
Come His Children…Alan Baxter
The Depiction…Julie Ditrich
The Key to Eternity…Steven Paulsen
They Are Impatient…Maurice Xanthos
Dead Language…Steve Kilbey
Asleep Beneath the Dripping…Jason Fischer
Supersymmetry Blues…David Conyers
Afterword…Jack Dann

And finally, here’s the full wrap cover:

Cthulhu Deep Down Under Volume 3 will be released in the second quarter of 2021. Preorders will be taken from December 2020 – stay tuned.

News: Finalists in the Sir Julius Vogel Awards

We are ecstatic to have a number of our editors and authors’ works reach finalist status in the New Zealand Sir Julius Vogel Awards – the awards that recognise excellence in speculative fiction and fandom. We have worked hard to support our New Zealand authors, and the following finalists and their categories gives, we think, a nod to our effort:

New Release: Cthulhu: Land of the Long White Cloud

It is with great pride that IFWG announces the release of Cthulhu: Land of the Long White Cloud, a Lovecraftian anthology of short fiction by New Zealand authors.

“IFWG Publishing Australia has published two Australian volumes in the Cthulhu Deep Down Under series, with a third coming in 2019,” stated Gerry Huntman, Managing Director of IFWG, “but I had the privilege and opportunity to meet and befriend a lot of talented dark and weird fiction writers in New Zealand, and it made a lot of sense to publish an anthology of Mythos fiction from a land referenced so vividly by Lovecraft. This is the exciting culmination of that idea.”

Cthulhu Land of the Long White Cloud FRONT PAGE

New Zealand—Aotearoa—Land of the Long White Cloud: the island remnants of the sunken continent of Zealandia. With its boiling geysers, active volcanoes, earthquakes, deep water fjords and lush forests of fern, these are realms once home to forgotten creatures like the giant Moa bird Dinornis. But there is something else…

In this collection we find an Aotearoa with the proud history, myths, and legends of the Māori, and the impacts of the white settler’s later presence, and the blended society that encompasses both, but we see the shadow of other things.

Herein lies the cosmic horror of the Old Ones of the Cthulhu Mythos in an anthology featuring Lovecraftian tales from some of New Zealand’s finest speculative fiction writers.

Stay brave. Because here there be monsters.

New Release: Cthulhu Deep Down Under Volume 2

It is with pride and pleasure that IFWG announces the Australian/UK/NZ release of Cthulhu Deep Down Under Volume 2, edited by Steve Proposch, Christopher Sequeira and Bryce Stevens. It is introduced by Mythos guru, Peter Rawlik.

H. P. Lovecraft pioneered a fusion of terror and science fiction themes, and is widely credited as having invented the sub-genre of ‘cosmic horror’. While America’s New England was the focus and setting for many of Lovecraft’s tales, the Southern Hemisphere held a fascination for him. Australia, New Zealand and Antarctica were featured locations in his Mythosian novellas.

In tribute to this, presented here is an assortment of the finest Australian dark fiction, bringing you a second volume of Lovecraftian stories of wonder and dread. Featured are new tales by ROBERT HOOD, LEE MURRAY, KIRSTYN McDERMOTT and SILVIA BROWN.

Cthulhu Deep Down Under Volume 2 takes us back below the equator, into the bizarre and headlong towards horror. From mist-shrouded peaks and canyons of Melanesian islands, through rainforests and scorching deserts of the island continent of Terra Australis, and across the Tasman Sea to the inhospitable hinterlands of New Zealand.
