New Release: The Forge by Barbara Howe

Today is the book-birthday, world-wide, of Barbara Howe’s concluding novel in her Reforging Series, The Forge.

While ecstatic at the release of another wonderful young adult fantasy novel by Barbara Howe, and the continuation of her storyline in the Reforging series, it is also a sad occasion for us, as it is the conclusion and we have to settle on there being an end to her story and world-building. This is the second series concluding for us in 2021, and another will occur in March 2023 – we should be getting used to this, but the sad fact is that we can’t when we are enjoying them so much.

Nevertheless, we are certainly very happy to have the complete series now available to readers who love a strong alt-historical bent to high fantasy, and who love realistic, strong female characters. This was what Barbara sold to us when we accepted the series back in 2016, and she delivered above expectations.

We would also like to acknowledge the magnificent artwork and design by UK-based Catherine Archer-Wills, who worked on all five books and, in our humble opinions, delivered the best for last.

Thunder rolls in a continuous barrage, echoing off mountain walls. Lightning blazes across the sky, one jagged flash after another. The bolts that hit their targets leave charred bodies in their wake. The attacks that miss turn spruce and fir into torches, spreading fire until the entire mountain is in flames. Struggling wizards stand out as black silhouettes against the reds and oranges of the forest fire and the white of the deep snow.

In the valley, villagers cower under beds or huddle in cellars. The bravest peek out through gaps in closed shutters and pray for the Fire Warlock to come and save them.

Their prayers go unanswered. There is no Fire Warlock.

The Forge is now available in ebook and print formats from all quality online and bricks and mortar stores. Stay tuned for an offer for all five books bundled, through the publisher.

New Release: The Five Star Republic, Book 1 of the City of the Sun trilogy

It is with great pleasure that IFWG Publishing announces the Australian, New Zealand, and UK/European release of The Five Star Republic by Janeen Webb and Andrew Enstice, the first instalment of their alt-history trilogy, City of the Sun. The print edition will be released in the US/Canada on 26th October 2021.

“IFWG has been waiting with anticipation for this day,” said Gerry Huntman, Managing Director, “as it really is our flagship title for 2021. It has so much going for it: incredibly well researched in Australian/Victorian history, a delightful twist that sends it into ‘what if’ territory, the injection of solar technology (that actually existed in the nineteenth century), and a riveting, compelling storyline spanning generations. We jumped at purchasing the rights to this trilogy and we know it will be a hit among speculative readers and historical fiction readers alike.”

IFWG is also offering preorders for a limited signed edition of The Five Star Republic.

“Multigenerational, sweeping across three continents…Inventive and absorbing alternate history.” -Nancy Kress

The date is 1854. The place is the Australian goldfields in the British colony of Victoria-the richest prize on earth. The story begins with a stockade. The flag of independence is unfurled. Men driven beyond endurance take arms against British redcoats. At their forefront are two hundred Colt-wielding Americans, the California Rangers, led by the charismatic and idealistic Captain James McGill.

The stockade falls. The Rangers are scattered. But from the ashes will rise a new revolution-a revolution powered by the sun. And this one will not fail.

In the 19th century, just how close did we come to a world run on solar power? The Five Star Republic is history with a twist, the story of a world that might easily have been-the future you’ll wish we’d had.

“Original and enthralling…an alternate history imbued with hope and promise.” -Pamela Sargent

“Harry Turtledove fans are in for a treat…” -Publishers Weekly (US).

The Five Star Republic is available in ebook and print formats from all quality online and bricks and mortar stores. The US and Canadian release of the book will occur on 26 October 2021.

Preorder Offer: The Five Star Republic limited signed edition

IFWG is very pleased to offer a limited signed edition version of Janeen Webb and Andrew Enstice’s new novel, The Five Star Republic. It is in hardcover format, with a signed block page (by both authors) and numbered. There will be a limit of 100 numbered copies available. A similar offer will be available next year for books 2 and 3 of the City of the Sun trilogy.

Furthermore, each reader can, if they wish, nominate up to 3 numbers they prefer to have in the signed block, and if they order book 2 next year, they can opt to have the same number (it will be reserved for a limited amount of time). This additional offer extends to book 3 as well.

IFWG believes that The Five Star Republic will be a notable book for 2021 in the speculative fiction field, particularly for readers of alternate history (Publisher’s Weekly stated that “Harry Turtledove fans are in for a treat…”). We believe this signed, limited edition will be eagerly sought after by fans, as well as those investors who recognise it as a fast appreciating asset.

This offer is open until all 100 copies are exhausted. We don’t know how long this will take, but we would advise interested readers to purchase copies as soon as possible (and in particular if a particular number is sought after). Mail-outs will occur in several waves, the first will occur mid October 2021. If a purchaser bids for 1 to 3 numbers and they are exhausted, the purchaser will get the next available lowest number.

This offer is only available to Australian, UK, US and Canadian purchasers. It will be shipped from Australia.

The following preorder offers are available:

Australian readers: AU$65.00 (includes shipping)

US/Canadian readers: US$65.00 (includes shipping)

UK/Europe: GB£50.00 (includes shipping)

The next wave for shipping preorders will be 15 December 2021.
