NEVER, EVER, LIE TO A WARLOCK

He never promised happily ever after, but Lucinda is still dismayed by how quickly reality intrudes on her fairy tale. Assassination attempts and lightning strikes disturb her honeymoon, but the return home brings no peace of mind. When the discovery of a magical conspiracy shakes her faith in everything she trusts, she vows to expose the Fire Warlock’s most shameful secret and see justice done.

As a hot summer draws towards a violent end, Lucinda teeters between terror and rage. She’d be less angry about risking her life if she didn’t suspect her husband – her hero! – intends to step aside and let her die.

For those who haven’t read the magic of Book 1 of the series, The Locksmith, it can be found in all good bricks and mortar and online stores.

Cover Reveal: Faerie Apocalypse by Jason Franks

Faerie Apocalypse front cover

IFWG are very pleased to reveal the cover of Jason Franks’ upcoming dark fantasy novel, Faerie Apocalypse. “We were entranced with the originality and hard-hitting style of the novel, and it was a no-brainer to accept for publication,” said Gerry Huntman, Managing Director of IFWG Publishing Australia.

Christian Chatman, who is no stranger to IFWG, was commissioned for the artwork – oil on canvas – and in fact painted the front and back on separate canvases to enable the very capable designer, Catherine Archer-Wills, to produce a stunning cover spread. Christian is a young artist and musician based in Arkansas, USA, who doesn’t let the challenges of autism hold him back. Catherine is a wonderful designer and artist based in the UK.

Over the centuries the Faerie Realms have drifted away from the mortal world. But for some, the Doors will open. For some, there is a Way to travel there, if they want it badly enough.

If they dream it hard enough.

In this era, only lovers, poets, and madmen can access the Realms of the Land—and for good reason.

A succession of mortals travel to Faerie: a veteran seeking beauty; a magus seeking power; an urchin seeking his wayward father; an engineer seeking meaning. These mortals bring the horrors of our age to the Land, and the Folk who live there respond in kind.

Faerie Apocalypse will be released worldwide on 15 January 2018, with a book launch in Melbourne in early February 2018 (details will come later).

Book Launch: The Grief Hole Illustrated by Keely Van Order

cover_final_front-grief-hole-ill

Keely Van Order‘s sketchbook companion to Kaaron Warren‘s masterpiece of dark fiction, The Grief Hole, is a unique work – as Nick Stathopolous stated, “It’s not often we are granted the opportunity to take a peek into an artist’s process, especially in such a handsome format.” And handsome indeed – the artwork is extensive and includes concepts left out of Kaaron’s book for space reasons, as well as variations and continuums of those that ended up in. 78 pages of it. Nick states, “When illustrating a manuscript, an artist doesn’t casually read it. They diligently scour every word to find those key pivotal moments that have the highest emotional and visual impact. As you turn every page of this portfolio, you can see Keely immersing herself in Kaaron’s bleak world, where each word takes on a deeper meaning, evoking a mood, stimulating the possibility of a visual interpretation. This level of engagement makes for great art.”

We are proud to announce that Keely’s magnificent book is to be finally Launched at Conflux in Canberra, at 5.30pm on Sunday 1st October. If you are in the area, or attending, we would recommend you to come along. The book will be for sale, as well as artwork direct from the artist. Refreshments will be available.

Sneak Preview: The Rejects by Ali Foster

IFWG Publishing (Australia and International) prides itself for its juvenile and young teen titles, and recently we have won some significant adulation in this field – The Smoking Mirror‘s ALA Belpre Award honor title comes to mind, as well as the Brumbies series.

Keeping this in mind, and also adding our significant effort to have a strong presence in the New Zealand market, we want to share with you the beautiful cover for The Rejects by Ali Foster (Book 1 of the Ginomees Trilogy). New Zealand artist and designer Cheryl Smith created a wonderful cover capturing the characters in Ali’s book, and it also has vibrant colours – well suited to the 8-10 year old reader market (and all the way to adult, mind you).

The rejects front cover

“We’re ginomees, it says so right here. Look! G-N-O-M-E-S spells ginomees!”

A group of discarded garden ginomees turn their backs on the boredom of a lifetime in the garden and set out in search of adventure. When a good deed goes wrong, Noname and his friend Flutey are forced to fly over the Tripletoe Mountains to win back the hats stolen by a band of wild ginomees.

The Rejects will be released on 1 May 2017 and will be available from all good bookstores, electronic and print.
